Apple 'Gala'

Apple 'Gala'

  • Popular dessert apple with a naturally sweet flavour
  • Reliable cropping in both warm and cooler UK climates
  • Good storage potential when harvested at maturity
  • Semi-dwarfing tree ideal for gardens of all sizes

Apple ā€˜Gala’ is one of the world’s most widely grown dessert apples and for good reason. A dependable and adaptable variety, it performs well across the UK, producing consistent crops regardless of location or garden type.

Bred from ā€˜Kidd’s Orange Red’ and ā€˜Golden Delicious’, ā€˜Gala’ inherits excellent texture and flavour from its distinguished parentage. When grown at home, the apples develop a far sweeter and more aromatic taste than shop-bought fruit, with attractive skin that deepens in colour as it ripens.

Harvested in early to mid-autumn, ā€˜Gala’ apples store well, allowing you to enjoy homegrown fruit well beyond the picking season. Grafted onto semi-dwarfing M26 rootstock, the tree remains compact and manageable while still producing generous yields.

Rootstock: M26 (semi-dwarfing)

Flowering Group: FG4

Height at maturity: 2.5-3.5m

Years to fruit: approx. 2 years from planting
